Quick Hits with gavin Halloran
After giving up the game decades ago, Gavin Halloran decided to give tennis another try four years ago when he met his partner Tricia. What began as a simple return quickly turned into a genuine passion—one that’s brought competition, new friendships, and meaningful time on the court.
What do you enjoy most about tennis?
I love playing matches and meeting other players. I've developed some good friendships because of it. The thing I enjoy most about tennis now is the extra time Tricia and I get to spend playing together and talking about all the places we want to visit to watch or play.
Singles or doubles?
I prefer singles but I’ve recently started to play more doubles which has been a blast to improve in. I love singles because of creativity and you can only blame yourself. It’s so rewarding to learn from your mistakes and adapt to win.
What’s one tip you’d give to someone just starting out in the sport?
Be patient, watch tennis closely and try to repeat what you see. Find a fun drill somewhere, I play the majority of my tennis at the PIT, fantastic teachers and drills. Getting into a fun group at drills has been fantastic for me, because as a group, we all improve like crazy, which is so much fun to see.
What’s a brand or piece of tennis gear or equipment you’d recommend to other players?
I recommend New Balance CT Rally 2. Good support and wonderful cushion, perfect for a guy in his mid 40s. I’m currently playing with the new 2026 Yonex Vcore 98, and have REALLY enjoyed it, highly recommend.
If you could play tennis with any pro (past or present), who would it be?
Agassi/Federer, that would be it.
How did you first discover Michael Lynne’s Tennis Shop? What keeps you coming back?
It became my store of choice when I picked the sport back up. I’m a gear junkie so I’ve spent a lot of time there and picked up plenty of equipment (ha). The people that work there have been so awesome and helpful. They are fun and incredibly enjoyable to talk to when they string rackets. The team are always welcoming and happy when you walk in, every time.
