Boys Tennis Is Back!

After a long winter, spring is here, which means that the Minnesota Boys Tennis season has officially started.
Practices officially began for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) on March 23, with the first set of matches kicking off on March 26.
Many high schools throughout Minnesota have no-cut tennis programs and even welcome middle school players — resulting in more students being able to participate in and enjoy the sport.
It’s clear that playing tennis provides physical and mental health benefits, particularly for young people. The sport can help kids build self-confidence, enhance resilience, and counter feelings of isolation and anxiety/depression through the exercise and socialization opportunities it provides, the USTA explains. It’s a lifelong sport, which means the high school students participating this season are growing skills they can take with them well beyond graduation.
Both Class A’s doubles and singles 2025 state champions came from St. Paul Academy and Summit School — Isaak Senaratna-Allan Wang in doubles and then sophomore Winston Arvidson in singles. St. Paul Academy and Summit School have been a dominant force in Class A, capturing four consecutive state titles from 2022-2025, and no doubt will be working toward a fifth this season.
The Wayzata Boys Tennis Team has been on a similar tear, winning their third straight state title in 2025, beating Edina 6-1. The teams will come face to face for the first time since the tournament in late April. Edina currently holds the all-time record for most team state tournament championships — 19 titles in the program's history.
The MSHSL Boys State Tennis Tournament will take place June 2-6, 2026 with Class A being held at Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center and Class AA at Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota.
